Things I've learned about cancer in the last 4 days:
1. I have it (the rotten boob kind)
2. Everything kicks into high gear when you're "young"
3. 39 is "young" when you have cancer.... Yet 36 is "advance maternal
age" when you're pregnant. Which am I? Young or old?! Confusing.
4. Apparently, hormones can feed tumors, so stopping them from entering your body is necessary... Which means no more birth control....
5. ...which means snippity-snip time, Mark Brown! No more babies for this maternal geriatric.
6. I have the best husband, parents, brother, sister, friends and family on this earth.
7. I'm so glad it's not in my kids. I thank God everyday that it's not
in my kids. I pray all the time for peace and strength for my friends
who have or are going thru this with their kids (love you, Claudia and Leslie!)
8. I'm definitely going to lose my hair.... And I'm hoping my awesome stylist for the last 9 years (Angie Sachs) will keep me as her client until the mop grows back!!!
9. Insurance will pay for the reconstructive surgery and they tattoo a
nipple back on. However, they won't pay for a black/white 8-ball to be
tattooed on in the place of a nipple. Jipped!
10. Pink.... The ribbon is pink. I hate the color pink. I wish there was a black and gold ribbon. I'd totally wear that.
11. I'm definitely not running any 5Ks because of this.
12. This is gonna suck. But if I had to choose a cancer to get, this
would be the one. Strangely, I have lots of girlfriends who are
selflessly offering to lay next to me and get their boob jobs done with
my "reconstruction". That's love!
